WHO IS IT AIMED AT?
StrategySpace is aimed at busy HR heads or CEOs who want to take a strategic, long term approach to leadership and talent management. We will work in partnership, building on and developing your ideas into a strategic framework with a roadmap for delivery. As your strategic partner, I will offer experience, alternative perspectives and knowledge, to help you to build practical, business-led solutions.
HOW IT WORKS
In a series of one-to-one sessions I will accompany you in anticipating and interpreting the strategic agenda, translating it into people imperatives, and working out how to deliver on these. I will also coach you to develop the right level of influence and resilience to get your ideas accepted, to gain stakeholder support and to lead your plans to successful delivery. At times, we might also bring other members of your team and/or key stakeholders into the conversation if you feel it’s appropriate.
We will agree a number of hours and sessions that we will work together. A typical structure would be 12-15 hours over 3-6 months, comprising four or five 3-hour sessions. To be confident that your strategy is grounded in the latest thinking and practice, I can also produce written summaries of what’s current in people-related topics.
WHERE IT STARTED
StrategySpace was born out of a piece of work I did with the head of OD of a Global engineering company. He was newly in role and had been tasked with delivering a global leadership development programme and wanted someone who could act as his ‘thinking partner’. We defined this as a combined specialist adviser, mentor and coach who would help him with shaping the programme, influencing his key stakeholders and supporting him through implementation. Some sessions were firmly focused on developing ideas for the design of the programme, whilst others were ‘pure’ coaching to help him with some of the relationship issues getting in the way of implementation. Some had very concrete outputs (e.g. a mentoring framework) whilst others were more focused on what he needed to do to influence senior stakeholders. The end result was that he and his team successfully delivered the company’s global leadership development programme, fully aligned to business needs.
